my father peter caws wrote four short and very beautiful meditations in 2006. they were the start of a novel he never finished. he sent them to me at the time and for some reason i don’t understand, i just read them and put them away. i found them years later and was completely bowled over. they were so moving, helpful and profound. i read them to the audience on a solo acoustic tour. they really struck a chord with people. my father was delighted when i told him and said he’d write more. two weeks later there were eight in total. a wonderful group i’d met on tour called parkington sisters recorded him reading the meditations and set them to music. barsuk records offered to turn them into a hardcover book with a vinyl EP tucked into a pocket on the back cover. line hoven illustrated it. it’s a really beautiful project. have a listen below.
